I promise! But, I also promise you that if some family is trying to take their kids on It's a Small World and they have to explain why that man is wearing leather pants and a fish net tank, with eyeliner on. Just go in your cargo shorts, fanny pack and Florida t-shirt just like every other person and no one will care what you do when you get back to the hotel. What in the HELL is the use of gay day at a family theme park? Why not just be gay and have a day at the park? Do people have to dress up in stereotypical gay costumes and walk around pushing their sexual preference in everyone's face? However, I DO think the flamboyance, the pride stickers and parades, and crap like "gay-day" as Disney will always pull back some of the progress they make. but they aren't as oppressed as they were. Maybe they stopped being so closed-minded, or maybe they are just trying to go with the current trend in the country. I say "bandwagon" because I see people that never gave two flips about gays posting on FB all the time about how we must let gays marry. They are getting the mainstream acceptance. Most of the country has jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon. Privledge here is easily defined as "problems you don't have to worry about on top of all your other problems" Here is a good link to read for more info. Being in a closet, while maybe safer is imo cowardly.
If people want to be jerks I can't stop them and hiding myself to prevent it is just another way of letting them win. Knowing the attention I receive might be negative isn't going to stop me from being who I am and living my life. So in a way, yes I'm asking for attention, but really I'm just trying to find my people and let them know "hey-I'm here too!" So yes, i do wear a rainbow bracelet and hang rainbow beads from my rearview mirror. This is just one small example.īeing a very feminine lesbian, i often feel invisible within my community because it isn't just straight people who assume. If I an with a woman, I am almost always asked if they're separate checks. We go to a restaurant and we're never asked "together or separate checks?" And 9/10 times they put the check down next to him. If i go anywhere with a Guy, its assumed we are together. The question you're asking its similar to "why isn't there a straight pride parade" the answer is - there is, every day! Lol You don't have to broadcast your straight sexuality because people assume you're straight most of the time anyway. TL DR: Why do you feel the need to broadcast your sexual orientation with stickers and parades, etc? But, it seems like you're ASKING for the attention, and knowing a lot of it might be negative. I really don't have a problem with anyone, gay straight, bi, or any other distinction that goes along with it.

However, I drive down the road and I see rainbow bumper stickers, decals on windows, license plate frames, etc. I have yet to see a straight pride sticker (I'm sure they are out there), flag, or parade. She said "So, I guess I have to stop having rainbow stuff then because I'm not gay."Īs a straight woman, I have never broadcasted to anyone who I have sex with, or what my sexual orientation is. My kid said "yes, they are what?" I said "They are gay." She asked how I knew that and I said because that's what the rainbow stickers mean. Yesterday, I saw a sticker that was a rainbow background and the words "Yes, I am." on it. This is something I really am curious about. >!insert spoiler here!< Other subreddits you might like: some
